Choosing a Holiday Destination
Submitted by Frank on Thu, 12/03/2009 - 23:05.From a green perspective there are lots of things to think about when choosing your destination, in addition to your own personal requirements like sun, sand and s-s-s-so on.

If you're going abroad, what is the political situation in the country? Is it ethically and morally acceptable to you? For example, what is the human rights record of the country?
-
how can you travel to the country? Do you have to fly, or can you drive or better still take a train?
Cut Down on Unnecessary Travelling

Travel broadens the mind. We wouldn’t want to suggest that it is not a good thing to travel, but some travel is unnecessary. Here are a few ways to reduce the amount of travelling you do:
-
use videoconference links to meet with remote work colleagues
-
take your holidays closer to home
-
shop on-line and get goods delivered to your house
-
if you need to “pop out for something” accumulate the trips until you have 3 or 4 errands to do in one go
-
live closer to your workplace
-
work from home, at least part of the time
